How to Set
Up your Router with PPPOE for
CaribServe.NET Wireless ADSL
The instructions
provided below are for customers who wish to utilize a router with our
new Wireless ADSL Service on the Motorola Canopy™ platform. If the
CaribServe.NET antenna installed on your residence / business looks like
the picture on the right, then the instructions below will assist you in
configuring your router for use on our network. If your antenna is one
of the older Cirronet WaveBolt units, the instructions below does not
apply to you!
Please follow the
steps on this form to set up your router with PPPOE for your
CaribServe.NET Wireless ADSL connection. Please note, the steps provided
herein were taken from a Cisco Linksys Router with a WindowsXP PC.
Configuration may vary for routers from a different vendor or on a
computer with a different operating
system.
STEP A. ENSURE
THAT THE LOCAL AREA CONNECTION ON YOUR PC IS ENABLED AND WORKING
-
Plug a network
cable from the LAN port on your router to your PC / Laptop

Make sure the
router is powered on (lights on)

On your PC,
click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications and finally,
Network Connections
-
This will open
up a window titled, “Network Connections”
-
Navigate the
cursor of your mouse over the icon titled, “ Local Area Connection”
-
Hold down the
right mouse button to display the hidden menu, select Properties
-
This will open
up a window titled, “Local Area Connection Properties”

Using the left
button on your mouse, double-click on “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”
-
This will open
up a window titled, “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties”

-
In this
window, please make sure that both options are set to “Obtain
Automatically”
-
Click OK
to close the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties” window
-
Click OK
again to close the “Local Area Connection Properties” window
-
This will
bring you back to the “Network Connections” window
-
Make sure your
Local Area Connection is Enabled (should look like the icon below)

If the local
area connection icon is grayed out, right click the icon and select
Enable
STEP B. OBTAIN THE
IP ADDRESS OF YOUR ROUTER
-
In Windows XP,
Click the START Button
-
Click on RUN and type
CMD in the corresponding window and hit
enter
-
A window
titled “Command Prompt” will open
-
type
ipconfig in this window and hit enter
-
record the IP
address of your default gateway
(this is the IP address of your router)

STEP C. CONFIGURE
YOUR ROUTER
-
Open a web
browser and navigate to the IP address of your router

Log into the
router
-
Enter the
username and password if prompted to do so (Check the manual of your
router for the default username and password.)
If you programmed
the router already and you cannot remember the username and password,
please check the manual for password recovery procedures

Click on the
Setup or Main Page
-
Set Connection
Type to PPPOE
-
Under
username, please enter your CaribServe.NET username in lowercase
letters (DO NOT add @caribserve.net to the username)
-
Under
password, please enter your CaribServe.NET password in lowercase
letters
-
Make sure that
Service Name is blank (nothing entered)
-
Select Keep
Alive
-
Make sure MTU
is set to AUTO
-
Click on Apply
or Save
-
The router
will reboot
-
Once
configured, connect the CaribServe.NET connection to the WAN port
of the router.
Additional
Steps: Once you are online with your router, please download
and install the latest firmware for your router from the manufacturer's
website. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully
on how to proceed with this step.
CONGRATULATIONS!
You can now use your router on your CaribServe.NET Wireless ADSL
connection.
